Early-Career Scientist Award
Description: In recognition of excellence in research by an early career scientist no more than 10 years post-PhD. We define excellence in research broadly, and this award therefore recognises scientific contributions to the field of coral reef science together with contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion, mentorship, and community engagement. Applications should clearly outline how they meet these criteria relative to the opportunities provided by their respective research environments.
Level of experience needed: No more than 10 years post PhD.
Note: The criteria for number of years post-PhD may be extended in the case of extenuating circumstances for the Early-Career Scientist Award only. A brief explanation should be included as an addendum to the nomination letter (i.e., not included in the word limit) that will be reviewed by the Awards and Honors Committee chairperson to assess eligibility; details of a personal nature will be redacted prior to evaluation by the full Committee and Council.
ICRS Membership requirement: Current ICRS member and member for a minimum of 2 years of the past 5 years.
ICRS Service requirement: None
Frequency of award: Annual
Number of awards: 1 per year
Recognition: Certificate; Elevation to ICRS Fellow status; Invitation to present at the next ICRS symposium; Invitation to contribute an article to Reef Encounters.
ICRS Fellow Status may also be awarded to the successful applicant IF the applicant meets the criteria of this status (ICRS Fellow). These two awards would be assessed separately based on the criteria.
