Mexican Coral Reef Society Chapter
Mission: The interest and the number of studies on Coral Reefs in Mexico grew fast in the last decade of the 20th century, and the First Mexican Congress on Coral Reefs was held in 2000. Soon after, the Mexican Coral Reef Society (MCRS) was founded by several enthusiastic reef scientists. Up to now, we have organized ten biennial meetings, and the 11th Congress will take place in Veracruz, Gulf of Mexico, in 2022 (also postponed by the COVID-19 pandemic). Mexico has coral reefs in the Atlantic (the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico) and Pacific (including the Gulf of California) oceans, and the active reef research community continues to grow. The goal of the MCRS Chapter is to collaborate with the ICRS, to promote the study and the dissemination of the knowledge on corals reefs in Mexico.
