Many congratulations to Dr. Tory Chase (USA) and Ms. Denise Alcantara (The Philippines) as recipients of the new ICRS Science Communication Fellowships of the ICRS. We received so many high quality applications that the ICRS Council agreed to appoint two Fellowships for this first year. The winners had clearly defined projects that:
- demonstrated innovation, originality, and commitment and enthusiasm to benefit ICRS and coral reefs,
- aligned with ICRS’s core values, mission and strategic plan.
Both Tory and Denise have clear training goals and aims to enhance coral reef publicity and use Reef Encounters and social media to promote ICRS activities, including the 2021 ICRS Conference. We look forward to hearing about their progress, and how their innovative approaches will contribute to both the ICRS mission and the health of coral reef ecosystems.
The ICRS Science Communication Fellowship (SCF) is a new award for an ICRS member at any career stage in any type of position (e.g., academic, NGO, government, private sector, other) to gain science communication skills through a workshop, course, internship, or some other equivalent experience.
Congratulations to Tory and Denise!
