ICRS Education Committee
Vision
The Education Committee promotes knowledge and awareness of the nature of coral reefs and threats to them from a broadly inclusive perspective, fostering the participation of under-represented groups.
Objectives
The Education Committee supports environmental education and public awareness of our world’s coral reefs by pursuing the objectives:
- Engage in environmental education and outreach activities for ICRS
- Coordinate education and outreach efforts with other ICRS committees
- Review Science Communication Fellowship award applications
- Promote informal and formal learning opportunities (e.g., courses, workshops)
- Share formal and informal teaching experiences and materials (e.g., lecture notes, field and lab exercises, and reference and book lists)
- Increase accessibility to educational resources by promoting online courses in different languages

Coral Reef Related Courses
- Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) offers undergraduate summer courses as well as internships funded by the Canadian Associates of BIOS (CABIOS).
- University of Derby offers a short course in Tropical Marine Biology. To sign up, please contact Dr Michael Sweet.

- Catlin Seaview/AXA Oceans Education have produced a series of curriculum resources and media based on their expeditions.
- Tara Oceans Expeditions invites school children to visit their ship and engage with the science they do at each port.
- The Natural History Museum, London, offers several resources on coral reefs and oceans.
- GRID Agendal presents a Story Map entitled Endangered Reefs, Threatened Peoples.
