REEF ENCOUNTER is the Magazine Style Newsletter of the International Coral Reef Society. It was first published in 1983. Following a short break in production it was re-launched in electronic (pdf) form. Contributions are welcome, especially from members.

As usual, this contains a mixture of thoughtful articles by members, reports on their work by recipients of graduate grants, topical short communications, and accounts of recent meetings (including COP28), as well as announcements about the fast approaching deadlines for nominating colleagues for awards and for submitting abstracts to the European Coral Reef Symposium in Naples, Italy. There is also a moving tribute to John Ogden, an influential past-President of the Society, whose loss some months ago many of us will have felt keenly.
